Overview
The Middle School Math Coach and Intervention Specialist supports math curriculum, instruction, and assessment at the middle school through coaching, facilitation, data analysis, curriculum development, and professional development. S/he supports students in small intervention groups.
Main priorities for this position include:
- Working with administration and math department to create a robust curriculum implementation and support plan
- Leading implementation and support for new math curriculum (Illustrative Math)
- Coaching math teachers
- Observing and supporting math instruction, including data analysis and instructional strategies
Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to:
- Coaching & Support - Curriculum, Assessment, Instruction
- Works with administration and math department to implement math curriculum and intervention systems
- Supports the instructional development of all teachers in understanding curricula, assessments, and data analysis
- Supports and coaches math teachers to further develop their instructional skills to engage all students. This includes but is not limited to supporting instruction in classrooms, providing informal, non-evaluative observations and targeted feedback, assisting teachers in developing instructional practices to help them help their students become proficient learners, and supporting teachers with lesson planning and reflection.
- Provides tools and resources for effective instructional delivery
- Models effective instructional practices and support anti-racist, anti-biased practices.
- Collaborates with grade and/or subject teams to plan units, launch units, plan lessons, create assessments, analyze assessment data, and implement an action plan as a result of that data
- Collaborates with math department to assist with facilitating team meetings to dive deep on curriculum, student work, and lesson planning
- Coordinates, manages, and facilitates innovative, motivating staff trainings and professional development sessions
- Facilitates regular data meetings with teachers to analyze student assessment data and design instructional decisions
- Advises and provides math instructional support to teachers and other school personnel
- Supports the design and implementation of ongoing math professional development for instructional and leadership staff, under the direction of the Director of Learning and Teaching and Middle School Principal
- Attends professional development as assigned/needed
- Serves on leadership teams as assigned
- Intervention
- Teaches several sections of math intervention block
- Develops and revises intervention plans, curriculum, and assessment and supports other teachers providing interventions
- Confers with students, parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to discuss their children's progress and support each child

- Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations
- Performs administrative duties such as recess, cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading, as needed

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university required
- Valid Rhode Island Department of Education Certification required
- Middle Grades Mathematics Teacher, Grades 5-8 OR
- Secondary Grades Mathematics Teacher, Grades 7-12
- Five years of experience as a middle or secondary classroom teacher, urban setting preferred
- Demonstrate research-based knowledge of math curriculum, instruction, and assessment, particularly at the secondary level
- Additional professional development and interest in elementary mathematics
